Today's quite the day for beta releases - in addition to our new iPhone app, we're also releasing the Beta of our GFI Max integration!

[Update April 3: we've just released a bunch of new features including two way sync - see this blog post for details]

What is GFI Max?

GFI Max is a "Remote Monitoring and Management" software package that helps IT professionals (especially Managed Service Providers or MSPs) to monitor the servers and workstations of their clients. A good RMM tool makes sure the IT professional gets notified when things aren't right - like a computer running out of hard drive space, a backup that didn't complete, or an antivirus that is out of date.

GFI Max is one of the more popular tools used by MSPs, and our integration is designed to combine the 'alert' functionality provided by GFI Max with the Requests, Services and time billing functionality provided by Accelo.

What can this beta do?

When it comes to connecting GFI Max to Accelo, we've focused on three different interfaces:

  • Alerts that are triggered in GFI Max become Requests in Accelo. This way, you can keep an eye on your requests queue in Accelo without needing to keep checking in on your GFI Max dashboard. Additionally, the Requests that show up in our Request queue in Accelo can be easily replied to, converted into issues or closed - but no matter what you do, they're always still tied to your client.
  • Alerts that are cleared in GFI Max automatically close Requests in Accelo. This way, temporary alerts that don't need ongoing management don't clutter your Accelo Request queue - you know the challenges you're focusing on are current problems that need to be fixed.
  • Closing Requests or Resolving/Closing Issues clears Alerts in GFI Max. Of course, with all your alerts now appearing in Accelo it makes sense to automatically update GFI Max if you or your team closes the request or resolves an issue in Accelo. This piece of the beta isn't yet live, pending feedback on the two "read-only" features.

When you connect your GFI Max account to Accelo you'll be able to choose preferences like:

  • What Request Type do you want to create? When an alert is triggered in GFI Max, we'll create a Request in Accelo; we just need to know what type of request to create.
  • Do you want to automatically create a new company/client in Accelo to match the company/client name provided in GFI Max?
  • Do you want to automatically close Requests in Accelo when the GFI Max alerts stops failing?
  • Do you want to clear/reset alerts in GFI Max when the Request or Issue in Accelo is closed or resolved? This could save time, but might end up closing alerts prematurely.
  • Do you want to email the people on your team who are listed as notification contacts for that request type, or do you want to just create the request and know they'll be notified another way?

How can I join the beta?

If you want to join the beta, email [email protected] and let us know:

  • Your GFI Max Dashboad address/URL
  • A GFI Max User/Pass to log into your Dashboard
  • Your GFI Max API Key (for testing/checking)

I'm already in the beta - how can I turn it on?

Once you're in the beta, you'll see a link for GFI Max appear in the left hand side of the Integrations page. Simply click on that link, enter the right details and hit save.
