Schedule Tasks To The Right Person With Skills Tagging!

Our Team Scheduling feature, first introduced just 6 months ago, has been incredibly popular with our users. One of the most common requests we've heard, however, is the ability to select groups of users when you're scheduling work. The most common request was the ability to assign "Skills" to your users, and then pull up groups of users based on these skills quickly and easily to speed up the process of assigning (and reassigning) work across your team. The good news is that today we've launched our new Skills module, enabling you to easily group users around their professional skills and making it easy to assign work accordingly.

To make this possible, there's a number of smaller enhancements you'll begin to notice, outlined below. Note that even if you're not using the Team Scheduling module, you're still able to use the skills tags and search across them.

1) You can now tag users with Skills. It's a proper tag field so you can easily add new skills on the fly.

2) You can now filter the User List in Team Scheduling using the skills field and other fields like Group, Manager and even Custom Profile Fields (like Office or Department).

3) We've enhanced the User List screen with additional filters, and provided the ability to save the filtered list. This is very handy as Saved Filters can be accessed in the Team Scheduling area to quickly update the User Schedules section.

4) Tasks and Milestones can also be tagged with Skills. So rather than guessing which tasks are best suited to your designers, you can filter the Tasks & Milestones tabs for the appropriate skills. BONUS: We've also given the Task View/Edit screen a bit of a make-over:

But wait there's more!

  • Skills can also be added to task and milestone templates - including retainer tasks.
  • There's a new Admin screen for viewing all Skills. From here you can rename, delete and even merge duplicate skills together.

For those interested in some of the technical aspects: When filtering using multiple skills, it’s currently a logical OR happening. e.g if skills are “html”, “css” the result will be people who have either “html” or “css”, not just people with both skills.

In the future we'll be introducing more reporting and forecasting based on these skills so you can start to track averages across milestones and tasks by skills - super helpful for seeing what's coming around the corner or how the team has been performing in the past.
